it's the j2 remix!

J2 Fiction Remix Challenge

WHAT IS THIS? This is where you get to re-write somebody's Jensen/Jared story! If you've ever read a story and thought "man, if I'd had that idea, I'd have done it differently," this is your chance.

Can anybody sign up? You can sign up so long as you have written at least three COMPLETED Jensen/Jared stories of more than 1000 words each, or at least 5 COMPLETED Jensen/Jared stories of more than 500 words each. We're trying to give people some variety. These stories must be PUBLICLY AVAILABLE somewhere on the internet.

What if I haven't written enough stories? You can still sign up as a pinch-hitter! And we will love you forever.

Can I remix any J2 story my author as written? You can remix any of your author's Jensen/Jared stories, as long as it is completed and publicly available. (This includes stand-alone stories within an incomplete 'verse.) The only exception is, you may NOT remix a remix. (Like, if the author has done another remix challenge and remixed someone else's work... you can't write a remix of the remix.)

But I don't want somebody messing up one of my stories in particular. You have two options—either don't sign up, or friends-lock that story until the challenge is over.

How are you assigning authors? Randomly. We're making two lists of authors in random orders and then pairing them up. affectingly is doing it, actually, because I want to actually participate and it wouldn't be fair if I got to pick my author and you all don't.

I don't like the author you assigned me because she kicked my puppy/writes too much porn/doesn't write enough porn/made fun of Jensen's sweater vest/only writes AU/once slept with Steve Carlson. Tough cookies. You can drop out of the challenge (let us know ASAP please!) or you can put aside your differences and write the story like a big kid. Remember, you don't have to like the story you're remixing. You just have to turn it into something you do like.

What, exactly, is a remix? You're essentially re-writing the story... how you would do it. We're leaving a lot open to interpretation here, so run with it. Some things I've seen in the past are: writing the story from a different POV, making an AU into a non-AU or vice-versa, changing the dialogue around, turning a shmoopy premise into an angsty premise... whatever. Try to be creative!

What can't I change? You can't change the pairing, obviously, but everything else is open to interpretation. Just keep in mind that you're re-imagining the author's story—the author should be able to recognize his or her ideas somewhere in your story, but it shouldn't be a carbon copy.

How long does my story have to be? At least 1000 words, even if you choose to remix a shorter story. Expand on it! You have two whole months.

Dates and deadlines, please.
  1. You sign up before August 8th.
  2. On or around August 9th, we assign you to an author. Keep your assignment a secret! It makes the big reveal more fun.
  3. Choose one of the author's Jared/Jensen stories to remix. Start writing!
  4. On or before September 30th, send your story to jensenjaredremix@gmail.com.  It doesn't have to be a final draft, we just need to know you're almost done so that we can assign a pinch-hitter if you're not close.  Don't worry, we'll email you a reminder.
  5. We'll open up posting on October 8th so you can post your fic to the community. Please don't post your story anywhere before October 8th! It's more fun if everybody gets their stories at once. Like Christmas, but with slightly more naked TV stars.
What if I miss the deadline? As soon as you know you aren't going to be able to make the deadline, please email us at jensenjaredremix@gmail.com to let us know. This is just courtesy, to give us as much time as possible to find a pinch-hitter. No questions asked, and we won't tar-and-feather you or anything! Sometimes shit happens, we know.

I have more questions! Leave a comment to this post! I'll get to you ASAP.

Where do I sign up? Here.
